Grace Poe denies decades-old gossip she’s Marcos’ daughter

Questions on her qualification to run for the highest elective post in 2016 apparently gave Sen. Grace Poe the chance on Wednesday to deny the decades-old gossip that she was the love child of former President Ferdinand Marcos and her aunt, former actress  Rosemarie Sonora.

Poe, who said she had long been looking for her biological parents, said her mother Susan Roces had already denied the tale of her being the daughter of the late dictator and Sonora.

"Ang nanay ko hindi naman magsisinungaling, sabi niya nung mga panahon na yun may mga issue na lumalabas na ganun, pero ang tita ko po na malapit ako doon, hindi talaga totoo yun. Ngayon kung may magpapatunay na iba sa showbiz, bahala sila pero  pinaniniwalaan ko ang aking nanay at hindi yun talaga totoo," Poe said.

Poe said she and Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the son and namesake of the late former President, would sometimes kid each other about being siblings.

"Sabi ko Senator Bongbong hindi kita pupwedeng bigyan ng special consideration sa Mamasapano [hearing] na hahabaan ko ang time mo ng pagtatanong dahil baka mamaya mas maniwala pa sila na magkapatid tayo eh hindi naman totoo 'yun," Poe said.

Asked whether she has considered taking a DNA test to prove that she's not related to the late Marcos, Poe said, "Hindi na.... Parang we’re stooping down to that level. I’d rather not and I just hope that the people will accept the truth that I am stating."

Poe is the adoptive daughter of the late actor and one-time presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. and Roces.

GMA News' “24 Oras” reported on Wednesday that one Sayong Militar found Poe abandoned inside the Jaro cathedral when she was still an infant.

One of Poe's early photos as an infant shows her being carried by Sayong during her baptism. Poe was baptized by the late Jaime Cardinal Sin, who was then Archbishop of Jaro.

Also in the same photo was Sayong's brother-in-law, Edgardo, the rumored biological father of Senator Poe.

Sofia Mijares, a former househelp of FPJ, told GMA News that Edgardo made pregnant a college student, who was supposedly Poe's biological mother.

Frightened of the consequences, the report said Poe's biological mother left the baby inside the cathedral, where Edgardo was to pick her up.

Edgardo gave Poe to Sayong, who then passed her on to the Ledesma family.

The Ledesma family then turned Poe over to FPJ and Susan, who would then raise the child as their own.

Victoria Militar, Edgardo's granddaughter meanwhile said that according to her grandfather, he only found Poe inside the cathedral and gave the infant to Sayong because he could not afford to take care of the abandoned child, the report said.

“That time, si lola nasa city. Pagdating niya doon siya nagulat na may dala nang bata si lolo,” she said.

Victoria said her grandfather had Poe baptized then as “Maria Gracia Natividad Militar." She said they grew up knowing Poe as their aunt.

Poe said Sayong herself denied that Edgardo is the senator's biological father.

“Si Edgardo Militar, suspetsa din ng iba. Siya ay kapatid ng asawa ni Sayong Militar, yung nakahanap sa akin. Tinatanong ko sila, parang di nila matukoy, di nila masabi kung totoo yun. Maganda sana kung lumabas na,” Poe said.
