Grace Poe confirms PNoy asked her to go around PHL with Mar

Senator Grace Poe on Sunday confirmed that President Benigno Aquino III asked her to go around the country with Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, the ruling Liberal Party (LP)’s presumptive presidential candidate for the 2016 polls.

Poe however clarified that Aquino made the request  in May, when they first met about the elections. She added that the topic was not raised again during their meeting last week.

“My answer to whether the plan to go around the country was discussed recently. My answer: No. It was not discussed last week,” the senator said in a text message.

“The only time it was mentioned was first week of May, when we first met. He repeated this also to Secretary Mar, who joined the latter part of our meeting last May,” she added.

GMA News Online asked Poe how she responded to Aquino’s request, but she has yet to reply as of posting time.

During the past weeks, Roxas has been visiting various provinces to distribute police patrol vehicles, but without Poe.

Poe has been leading recent presidential and vice-presidential preference polls. Roxas, meanwhile, has consistently been lagging behind her and Vice President Jejomar Binay, the opposition party’s
standard-bearer next year.

Aquino met with Roxas, and with Poe and Senator Francis Escudero on separate occasions this week. The president earlier said he will announce his preferred successor this month, after his last State of the Nation Address. — JDS, GMA News
