Two soldiers killed in Abu Sayyaf Group bomb attack in Basilan

Two soldiers were killed after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by suspected Abu Sayyaf Group members exploded in Basilan province on Friday.

Ensign Chester Ramos, the spokesman of the Joint Task Force Zambasulta, said the blast occurred at the boundary of Barangay Lagayas and Barangay Cabangalan around 1 p.m.

Ramos said the casualties were from the Army's 64th Infantry Battalion and were tasked to secure the route of a military convoy.

Authorities are conducting pursuit operations while an investigation is also ongoing for the filing of charges against the suspects. -Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
