San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez endorses Bongbong for VP


Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has gained the backing of a powerful member of one of San Juan’s most influential political clans.

San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez formally endorsed Marcos’ candidacy for vice president during the city government's flag-raising ceremony Monday.

The senator’s running mate, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, was not present during the event. She has no campaign activities scheduled for the day.

In backing Marcos’ candidacy, Gomez, a partner of Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, recalled their families’ close ties with each other.

The son and namesake of the late President Ferdinand Marcos also happened to be a former resident of San Juan City, the mayor said.

Gomez earlier expressed support for the presidential bid of administration standard bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II while Estrada has yet to name his preferred candidates for president and vice president.

After attending San Juan City’s flag ceremony, Marcos will head to Aurora to grace the province’s trade fair. He is also scheduled to hold a press conference at the provincial capitol afterwards.

By evening, Marcos is expected to be back in Metro Manila to attend the Coalition of Clean Air Advocates of the Philippines’ concert at Amoranto Stadium. —ALG, GMA News
