‘NO NEED TO EMBEZZLE FUNDS’

Pastor Quiboloy gave me pieces of property, cars —Duterte

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Monday claimed that he didn't have to engage in graft and corruption because his longtime friend Pastor Apollo Quiboloy had been helping him acquire pieces of property and secure his family.

The presidential candidate made the disclosure on Quiboloy's TV program "Give us this Day" in an apparent attempt to disprove the allegations made by vice presidential bet Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that he had pieces of property that remain undeclared in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.

Quiboloy is the founding leader and executive pastor of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, which was founded in Davao City in 1985.

“Noong mayor ako, binili ni Pastor tatlong [properties]. Iyan, totoo iyan. Sabi niya, ‘Bilhan ko iyang mga anak mo.’ Maliliit pa iyan sila," Duterte said.

"Kasi kaibigan na kami ni Pastor before I became mayor. Long time ago kami—thirty years. Sabi niya bilhan ko iyang mga anak mo kasi kapag nadisgrasya ka sa trabaho mo, namatay ka. Kasi talaga hinahabol ko ang mga kriminal dito. Barilan kami,” he added.

Duterte said that one of the assets Quiboloy gave him is in Woodridge Subdivision in Ma-a, Davao City.

“Binigay na ang bahay sa Woodridge, diyan sa amin. Nandiyan iyong bahay, tignan n’yo. Hindi ko nga tinanggap. Sabi ko, ‘Pastor [naku],’ And it’s there. No, puntahan ninyo ang Woodridge, sino ang bumili? It’s Pastor,” Duterte said.

Quiboloy also bought a property in Royal Pines Subdivision in Matina, Davao City for Duterte.

“Iyong sa Royal Pines, akala nila ako na binili ko. Sabi ko tignan mo sino nagbili niyan. Si Pastor,” Duterte said.

In Duterte’s 2014 Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Networth (SALN), it was indicated that he acquired two residential properties in Maa in 1997 and 1999 and three in Matina purchased in 1998, 2005, and 2007.

Safari, Expedition

Duterte also revealed that the pastor offered him vehicles.

Quiboloy even once gave him a Ford Expedition, which has a current market value of around P3 million. Duterte said he did not accept it.

“Safari, binigay niya iyon. Tapos binigyan ako ng Expedition, pagpunta ako ng airport P300, hindi na makabalik. Sabi ko, ‘Iyo na iyan.’ Binalik ko. Tapos, itong si Inday nagwala kasi gusto niya. Sabi ko, ‘Saan ka ba kukuha ng pang-gasolina? Para kang buang diyan,’” Duterte said.

“Everytime magbili si Pastor, dalawa iyan. Ang isa sa akin diyan. Sigurado. Wala naman siyang ibang bigyan. Wala naman siyang kaibigan, a friend that he can really trust. Totoo iyan,” he later added.

An aircraft, too

Quiboloy also offered to give his plane to Duterte for the campaign trail.

But the mayor declined the offer and said he would just borrow it so he could come home to Davao City every night if elected president.

“Pastor is here. I don’t have to embezzle funds. I can ask Pastor,” he said.

Aside from properties and vehicles, Duterte said that Quiboloy also helped him get rid of his sweaty hands. He said that the pastor linked him to US-based doctor Martin Cooper, who was also the neurosurgeon of Elizabeth Taylor.

“Pumunta ako. Nagpa-opera ako. Bayaran niya [Quiboloy],” he said. —NB, GMA News
