'ANG SUCCESS NIYA, PARA SA BUONG BANSA'

After winning VP race: Robredo says she's excited to work with Duterte

Shortly after winning the race for the second highest position in the land on Friday, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo maintained that she will support incoming President Rodrigo Duterte, saying it is her "obligation" as a Filipino to do so.

In an interview on 24 Oras after topping the official tally for the vice presidential race, Robredo was asked if she was excited to work with Duterte.

She added: "Naging mahirap po 'yung eleksyon, naging very divisive. Kinakailangan pong mag-rebuild tayo bilang isang bansa at kailangan po ni President Duterte 'yung ating tulong lahat."

Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, finished the official tally of the votes for president and vice president at past 7 p.m. Friday, with Duterte and Robredo topping their respective races.

According to the official tally, Robredo finished with 14,418,817 votes while Marcos had 14,155,344. Robredo led Marcos by only 263,473 votes.

Duterte as expected came up with a huge win in the presidential race with 16,601,997 votes.

Senate canvassing chairman Aquilino Pimentel III said Duterte and Robredo would be proclaimed on Monday, May 30.

Robredo said she has not spoken with Duterte specifically about the Cabinet position that will be delegated to her. She opts to wait for her proclamation before paying him a visit.

Ayaw ko naman pong pangunahan," she said. —Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/JST, GMA News
