Gierran denies working with Matobato to feed corpse to crocs

National Bureau of Investigation Director Dante Gierran on Thursday denied the claims of Edgar Matobato that they worked together on the kidnapping and killing of an individual and fed the corpse to crocodiles.

"Hindi po totoo yon. 26 years na ako sa NBI. I perform my job with honesty, objectivity, and fairness," Gierran said in a text message.

He, however, admitted knowing Matobato.

"Kilala ko naman si Matobato... pero never po na sinama ko siya sa aking mga trabaho dati sa Davao," Gierran said.

Matobato, a confessed member of the Davao Death Squad, attended the third Senate probe on the alleged extrajudicial killings.

Some of the highlights of Matobato's testimony include the alleged involvement of President Rodrigo Duterte in the bombings of mosques in Davao City and his son Paolo's alleged participation in several killings, including that of businessman Richard King.

Senators favored granting Matobato protective custody which Senate President Koko Pimentel later denied based on the pronouncement of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/NB, GMA News
