Yasay addresses online reports: I am Filipino, I don't have dual citizenship

Foreign Affair Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. has denied online reports that he has dual American citizenship.

"I would like to assure the Filipino people that I am a Filipino citizen, I don't have any dual citizenship, I am not an American, I am a Filipino in thought, in word, and in deed," Yasay said in a report aired on "24 Oras" on Wednesday.

Yasay, meanwhile, refuse to answer questions about the citizenship of his children.

The Cabinet member also addressed criticisms about a recent Facebook post showing a picture of himself toting a gun, saying it was his way of showing support for President Rodrigo Duterte.

He also addressed a viral meme showing him dressed up as a Chinese soldier, dismissing this as the handiwork of anti-Duterte forces. 

"I would imagine that these are people who have, from the very beginning, not wanted the President assume the office of President of the Republic," he said. —JST, GMA News
