In 2013, the Philippines was hit by the strongest typhoon ever to make landfall in recorded history.

Supertyphoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) hit the country on November 8 that year.

Its strong winds, that reached a maximum of 235 kilometers per hour, damaged more than a million houses. The death toll reached over 6,000.
