Marcos camp: Robredo afraid of the truth

Vice President Leni Robredo is afraid of the truth that her victory in the May 2016 elections was tarnished, the camp of former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said Sunday.

In a statement, Marcos camp's spokesman Atty. Vic Rodriguez said, "Their actuation on the protest have been consistent: They are afraid of the truth because it would reveal how much they tarnished and debased the true will of the Filipino people in the vice-presidential race."

According to Rodriguez, the remark of Robredo's counsel about a plan to appeal the decision of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) was expected.

"We are not surprised ... they will appeal the recent PET decision which found former Senator Bongbong Marcos’ election protest to be sufficient in form and substance," he said.

Last Thursday, the Supreme Court, sitting as the PET, dismissed Robredo's plea to junk the poll protest Bongbong Marcos had filed.

In a resolution dated January 24, the PET rejected Robredo’s claims that the tribunal could not go ahead with the case for lack of jurisdiction, and that Marcos' poll protest is "insufficient in form and in substance."

Rodriguez said the younger Marcos only wants the truth to come out, while Robredo's camp is "still looking for ways to delay the proceedings."

"If Robredo has nothing to hide, why resort to all these delaying tactics?  It's not enough that her camp cheated their way to the Vice-Presidency. Now they want to cheat again by depriving Bongbong Marcos of his day in Court.  We want the truth to come out," he said.

Marcos lost to Robredo by just 263,473 votes in the May 2016 election, which the former senator claimed was marred by fraud. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/LBG, GMA News
