Critics to file impeachment complaint vs. Robredo today

Critics of Vice President Leni Robredo will file an impeachment complaint against her at the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon.

A radio dzBB report said that according to Department of the Interior and Local Government Assistant Secretary Epimaco Densing III, the impeachment complaint will be filed around 1 p.m.

Densing said the grounds for their impeachment complaint against Robredo are betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution and graft and corruption.

He said the basis for the complaint was a video message played during a United Nations forum, where Robredo revealed the alleged "palit-ulo" scheme and warrantless arrests in the police's anti-drug campaign.

Lawyer Bruce Rivera, one of those behind the impeachment complaint, said the video message was only one of the other reasons for the filing of the complaint.

Rivera told radio dzBB that their finalized the complaint on Monday.

Later in the day, Robredo's legal adviser, former party-list Rep. Barry Gutierrez, downplayed the planned filing of another impeachment complaint, even saying that it came as no surprise to them.

"Hindi naman kagulat-gulat ‘yon. Matagal na naming ine-expect na magfa-file ng impeachment complaint," Gutierrez told reporters. "Pero sa kuwento na narinig namin a few weeks ago sa kanilang press conference, mukhang wala naman talagang batayan. In fact, they were attempting to crowd-source on fishing expedition," he said.

"[M]alinaw naman po na ito ay paninira lang at harassment at wala talagang batayan na malinaw," he added. —ALG/RSJ, GMA News
