55 percent of Pinoys want minimum age of criminal liability kept at 15

Most Filipinos think that the minimum age of criminal liability (MACL) should be retained at 15 years old, while majority of the population continues to support the death penalty, results of a March 2017 Pulse Asia survey revealed.

Poll results showed that 55 percent of the respondents are in favor of maintaining the MACL at 15 years old.

Twenty percent of the respondents, meanwhile, said the lowest age of criminal responsibility should be at 12 years old, while nine percent believe it should be nine years old.

Pulse Asia added that those from Luzon are more favorable of keeping the MACL at 15 years old, at 63 percent, compared to those from Metro Manila and Visayas, with 45 and 47 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the March 2017 survey results also showed that death penalty was supported by 65 percent of the Filipinos.

This is 14 percentage points lower than the results of the July 2016 survey, which was at 81 percent.

Twenty-five percent of the Filipinos opposed the death penalty, as revealed in the survey, while eight percent were undecided.

The survey, which was conducted from March 15 to 20, was participated by 1,200 adults nationwide with sampling error margins of ±3 percent at a confidence level of 95 percent. —NB, GMA News
