Duterte Youth leader named to National Youth Commission

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed one of his staunchest young supporters to the National Youth Commission.

Duterte on August 24 appointed Duterte Youth chairman Ronald Cardema as a commissioner of NYC, representing Luzon. He will have a term of three months.

He will take his oath on Tuesday afternoon, along with new Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña and 68 others.

Cardema and the rest of the Duterte Youth in June 2016 asked the Commission on Elections not to contract the services of Smartmatic in future elections, claiming that Duterte was cheated in the May elections despite his electoral victory.

They also expressed support for Duterte's decision to allow Ferdinand Marcos' burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani and the Supreme Court ruling upholding the controversial move.

Cardema and his group last hit the headlines during the 1986 People Power Revolution anniversary in February after they showed their support for Duterte near the EDSA Shrine. —NB, GMA News
