Paolo Duterte on ‘expensive’ watch: It’s a gift

Presidential son and Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte on Tuesday explained that the "expensive" watch he was wearing was just a gift.

Duterte implied it was not an original and he even dared the media to get his watch, sell it, and divide the expected P1.9 million cost among themselves.

“Pero kung dili gani dawaton, i-uli ni sa akoa. Gwapo man mu-ambisyon intawon ning pobre [If they won’t accept the watch, give it back to me. It’s also nice for the poor to have an ambition],” he told reporters in a press conference in Davao City.

"Ngano? Wala koy katungod mu-ambisyon miski musuot nalang ko ug imitation? By the way, Audemars Piguet, Piguet, or whatever, AP, gihatag ra ni sa akoa. Giregalo ra ni [Why? I don’t have the right to wish to wear even just an imitation? By the way, Audemars Piguet, Piguet, or whatever, AP, this was just given to me. It was just a gift.],” he added.

The Vice Mayor made the remark in reaction to a netizen’s post about his watch, which went viral.

The netizen noted that Duterte wore one of the designs of the Swiss luxury watch, Audemars Piguet, specifically the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph model which is said to be worth P1.9 million. — BAP, GMA News
