Presidential Communications Operations Office Sec. Martin Andanar on late Monday night announced the suspension in a message to reporters.

He added that it was President Rodrigo Duterte who made the decision.

In Andanar's statement, he said Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea has suspended government work and classes in all levels on Tuesday "due to the nationwide transport strike, public health and safety."

"May transport strike, ulan, bagyo at walang masakyan," he said.

"Baka magkasakit mga kawani ng gobyerno at mga estudyante kung maulanan at walang masakyan," he added.

Earlier, presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said that the PISTON's transport strike barely affected the riding public, thus, the resumption of government work and classes.
