Duterte regains ‘very good’ satisfaction rating in Q4 – SWS


President Rodrigo Duterte's net satisfaction numbers rose 10 points and improved to a "very good" rating during 2017's fourth quarter, a Social Weather Stations poll found.

According to the poll, 71 percent were satisfied with Duterte's performance, with 15 percent undecided, and 13 percent dissatisfied.

This gave the president a net satisfaction rating (percent satisfied minus percent dissatisfied) of +58 or a "very good" rating.

Satisfaction with the president was also in "very good" territory during 2017's second quarter at +66, but this dropped to a "good" +48 ( 67% satisfied, 19% dissatisfied) during the third quarter.

The SWS rates a +70 net satisfaction rating as "excellent"; +50 to +69 was "very good"; +30 to +49 was "good"; +10 to +29 rates as "moderate", +9 to -9 was "neutral"; -10 to -29 was "poor"; -30 to -49 was "bad"; -50 to -69 was "very bad"; and -70 and below was "execrable".

Geographically

The president's satisfaction rating saw gains across the country. It gained 14 points in Balance Luzon, 11 points in Metro Manila, 10 points in the Visayas, and 3 points in Mindanao.

Duterte's net satisfaction rating remained an "excellent" +80 (84 percent satisfied, 5 percent dissatisfied) in Mindanao in the fourth quarter, up 4 points from +76 (82 percent satisfied, 6 percent dissatisfied) from the third quarter.

The president's satisfaction numbers improved from good to very good in Metro Manila: +55 (73 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied) in December, up by 11 points from +44 (68 percent satisfied, 24 percent dissatisfied) in the third quarter.

In the Visayas, it improved to a "very good" +53 (72 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied) in the fourth quarter, from the third quarter's "good" +43 (64 percent satisfied, 21 percent dissatisfied).

In  Balance Luzon, it improved to a "very good" +50 (64 percent satisfied, 14 percent dissatisfied) from the third quarter's "good" +36 (59 percent satisfied, 23 percent dissatisfied).

Urban, rural; social classes

The president's approval rating also saw improvements in both urban and rural areas.

In urban areas, Duterte scored a "very good" +63 (76 percent satisfied, 13 percent dissatisfied) in the fourth quarter, from the previous quarter's "good" +48 (68 percent satisfied, 20 percent dissatisfied).

Rural net satisfaction for the president improved to a "very good" +54 (68 percent satisfied, 14 percent dissatisfied) from the third quarter's "good" +47 (65 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied).

Among social classes, Duterte's net satisfaction rating with class ABC remained at a "very good" +66 in the fourth quarter, despite a nine point gain from the third quarter's +57 (70 percent satisfied, 13 percent dissatisfied).

His rating among class E improved significantly to a "very good" +65 in the fourth quarter, from the previous quarter's good +35 (61 percent satisfied, 26 percent dissatisfied).

Among class D, Duterte was rated a "very good" +57 in the fourth quarter, from the third quarter's "good" +49 (68 percent satisfied, 18 percent dissatisfied).

Gender, age groups

Among men, Duterte's net satisfaction numbers improved to a "very good" +61 (74 percent satisfied, 13 percent dissatisfied) in the four quarter, from the previous "good" +49 (68 percent satisfied, 19 percent dissatisfied).

Similarly, the president's net satisfaction among women in the fourth quarter was a "very good" +55 (69 percent satisfied, 14 percent dissatisfied), compared to the third quarter's "good" +46 (65 percent satisfied, 19 percent dissatisfied).

Among age groups, the president's net satisfaction remained at a "very good" level among 25-34 year olds: +63 (76 percent satisfied, 13 perent dissatisfied) in the fourth quarter, from the prvious quarter's +53 (70 percent satisfied, 17 percent dissatisfied)

It improved to a "very good" +63 (74 percent satisfied, 11 percent dissatisfied) from a "good" +45 (66 percent satisfied, 21 percent dissatisfied) among  35-44 year olds.

It similarly rose to a "very good" +58 (70 percent satisfied, 12 percent dissatisfied) from a "good" +45 (64 percent satisfied, 19 percent dissatisfied) among those 55-years-old and older.

Satisfaction among 45-54 year olds stayed at a "very good" +52 (67 percent satisfied, 15 percent dissatisfied) in the four quarter, compared to the third's "very good" +53 (70 percent satisfied, 18 percent).

Among 18-24 year olds, satisfaction remained at a "good" +46 (67 percent satisfied, 22 percent dissatisfied) from the previous quarter's +40 (63 percent satisfied, 23 percent dissatisfied).

Education

College graduates rated Duterte a "very good" +69 (75 percent satisfied, 6 percent dissatisfied) in the fourth quarter, from the previous quarter's "good" +48 (67 percent satisfied, 19 percent dissatisfied).

Non-elementary school graduates rated the president a "very good" +63 (73 percnet satisfied, 10 percent dissatisfied) from the third quarter's "good" +41 (61 percent satisfied, 20 percent dissatisfied).

Again, satisfaction rose to "very good" +54 (68 percent satisfied, 14 percent dissatisfied) among elementary school graduates in the fourth quarter. During the third quarter, they rated the president a "good" +38 (61 percent satisfied, 23 percent dissatisfied).

High school graduates rated the president exactly the same in the fourth quarter as they did in the third,  a "very good" +56 (72 percent satisfied, 16 percent dissatisfied).

The fourth quarter net satisfaction poll on the president was taken from December 8 to 16, 2017 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 respondents nationwide. The poll had a sampling error margins of ±3 percent for national percentages, and ±6 percent for regional percentages. — DVM, GMA News
