Court grants Senator De Lima’s bid for medical furlough


A Muntinlupa City court has granted detained  Senator Leila de Lima's request for a medical checkup furlough. 

Super Radyo dzBB's Roland Bola reported Saturday afternoon that Judge Amilia Corpus of the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 205 has allowed De Lima to leave the Philippine National Police Custodial Center for a checkup on her liver condition.

In her petition dated February 22, 2018, the senator cited a lump in her liver and requested that she should  be allowed to see a doctor.

The initial report did not indicate the date for the furlough but said De Lima is scheduled to have a medical checkup at the Philippine Heart Center.

Also, the report said that the PNP has been ordered to provide security for the senator while outside the police custodial center.

De Lima has been in detention for the alleged proliferation illegal drugs trade inside the New Bilibid Prison, the national penitentiary, while she was still secretary of the Department of Justice. —LBG, GMA News
