New AFP chief Galvez: I’ll not hesitate to relieve anyone tainted with corruption

Newly-installed Armed Forces chief Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez has vowed that corruption will have no place under his leadership as he will not hesitate to relieve anyone who will be tainted with corruption.

"The President has zero tolerance for corruption. We will have no fear of relieving people who are mediocre and full of anomalies. We will keep the AFP clean, I will not hesitate to relieve any commander who will be tainted with corruption," Galvez said during his first flag raising ceremony on April 23.

Galvez had also directed the Office of the Inspector General to "investigate reported anomalies in the use of resources to ensure judicious use of funds and proper management of government assets."

While he is strict with erring personnel, Galvez also told officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees present in the flag ceremony that he will also give awards and recognition including cash incentives to deserving personnel.

Plaques of recognition and cash incentives starting from P10,000 will be given to  performing officers, EPs and CEs on a quarterly basis.

Galvez tasked the deputy chief of staff for personnel to "craft the process and conduct appropriate deliberations."

The new AFP chief also vowed to "promote officers and enlisted personnel who will excel and deliver significant results required of their respective positions."

Aside from this, Galvez also promised to work "hands-on and without delay" with the modernization program of the AFP, adding that he will not impose a "cut off time" in sending documents that need to be acted upon even after office hours.

"The President is pushing us to make our modernization move forward. We need to choose people who can deliver results for our modernization," he said.

Prior to his new post as AFP chief, Galvez was commander of the Western Mindanao Command. He replaced retired AFP chief General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, who is reported to lead the Maritime Industry Authority. — Marlly Rome Bondoc/RSJ, GMA News
