Bong Go: Expect ad libs in Duterte's 3rd SONA

Special Assistant to the President Bong Go said the public should expect President Rodrigo Duterte to veer away from his prepared speech for his third State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 23.

However, Go said the President has assured them that he will try his best not to exceed 30 minutes.

"Sanay naman tayo sa kanya. Naga-adlib siya at kung ano po yung nasa puso niya ay sinasabi niya talaga," Go said in a report by Marisol Abdurahman on 24 Oras on Thursday night.

Go said that Duterte's speech is 20 pages long and will tackle his campaign against illegal drugs, corruption, and poverty.

He said the President will also bring up the rehabilitation of war-torn Marawi City.

"Tatalakayin niya yung kanyang political will na gawin kung ano yung mga plano niya sa bansa," Go said.

Duterte earlier vowed to keep his third SONA short, not exceeding 35 minutes.

Known for his long and winding speeches in public events, Duterte's first SONA in 2016 ran for one hour and 32 minutes—the longest first SONA in history. His 2017 SONA was even longer, lasting two hours as he went off course and made several impromptu remarks.

Duterte's spokesperson, Harry Roque, said Duterte is expected to call on Congress to approve the proposed federal charter and other measures such as rice tariffication during his speech. —Jessica Bartolome/KBK, GMA News
