Lorenzana on Red October: Wala na 'yan

The supposed Red October plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte will no longer push through, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said Friday.

"Wala na 'yang Red October, wala na," Lorenza said, adding, in jest, that it is now time for "White Christmas."

In July, the military said it uncovered the ouster plot through documents recovered by soldiers and confirmed by testimonies of communist rebels who have surrendered.

"Wala na, hindi na natuloy 'yung kuwan nila, kasi nabuking sila, there was, we got a document really stating that, nakalagay dun Red October," Lorenzana said.

"So nung ilabas 'yun ng AFP... kasi initially parang merong mga kumpol-kumpol yung mga grupo, pero nung mabulgar sila, nagpulasan na so hindi na matutuloy," he added.

The Defense chief earlier said the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) is planning to get support from various civic organizations to join their mass actions led by progressive groups.

However, he said the ouster plot is doomed to fail due to lack of popular support. —Ted Cordero/KBK, GMA News
