Duterte promotes son-in-law’s brother to DA undersecretary

President Rodrigo Duterte has promoted the brother of his son-in-law Manases "Mans" Carpio currently assigned at the Department of Agriculture (DA), a Palace document released on Thursday showed.

Duterte named Waldo Carpio as DA undersecretary on November 27, more than a year after the latter was appointed assistant secretary of the department in September last year.

In September 2016, Duterte attended Waldo's wedding at the San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila, serving as a principal sponsor along with then-Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, aunt of the Carpio brothers.

Waldo is the brother-in-law of the President's daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

Malacañang also released the appointment papers of Carim Panumpang (undersecretary, Department of the Interior and Local Government), Allan Gepty (assistant secretary, Department of Trade and Industry), Ma. Teresita Daza (ambassador to Chile with concurrent jurisdiction over Ecuador and Peru).

The other new appointees are Ruth Marie Equipaje (board member, Nayong Pilipino Foundation) and Cesar Aljama (board member, Nayong Pilipino Foundation) and Alexander Bangsoy (board member, Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation).  —Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
