Comelec starts accepting applications for gun ban exemption

The Commission on Elections began accepting applications for gun ban exemption on Saturday.

The Comelec said applicants may file their Certificate of Authority at the office of the Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Personnel at the Comelec main office in Intramuros.

Applications will be entertained until May 29, 2018.

The Comelec earlier said that the gun ban will be from January 13 to June 12, 2019

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said it would be prohibited to carry or transport weapons and firearms during the election period for the May 2019 elections.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10446, however, some persons and entities may be qualified to seek exemption to the gun ban.

Jimenez said that unless properly covered by the Certificate of Authority, any permit to carry weapons outside an individual's residence or place of business will be ineffective during the election period. —KG, GMA News
