Robredo camp hopes bicam will restore P100M cut from OVP’s budget

The camp of Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo hopes that the bicameral panel will push through with the restoration of the 2019 budget of the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

In an interview aired on Radio Mindanao Network on Sunday, Robredo's spokesperson Barry Gutierrez talked about the proposed P100-million cut in the OVP's budget for 2019.

"P100 million ang tinanggal at iyon ang inaprubahan ng House of Representatives pero mabuti sa Senado kahit papaano dininig ang paliwanag ni VP Leni at naibalik," said Gutierrez.

"Pero tingnan nalang natin kung mabubuhay ito sa bicam," he added.

Robredo earlier said her office suffered an estimated P100-million cut for next year from its 2018 appropriation of P543 million, as approved by the House of Representatives.

For its part, the Senate approved the P547.6-million appropriation for the OVP next year, equivalent to the original proposed budget of the agency.

Congress, however, has yet to pass the proposed P3.757-trillion national budget for 2019, marking the first time in eight years that the national budget failed to pass on time. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
