Duterte to tambay: Rob the bishops, they're rich

President Rodrigo Duterte continued his sharp rhetoric against the Catholic Church, this time advising tambay or bystanders to rob and eventually kill moneyed bishops.

Duterte, in a speech during the birthday celebration of Masbate Governor Antonio Kho on Wednesday night, criticized first the clergy's use of the pulpit to attack him and his drug war before he made the suggestion.

"Kaya pagdating ko sabi ko, 'Hoy, kayong mga tambay diyan, ‘pag dumaan ‘yang obispo ninyo, holdapin ‘yan. Maraming pera ‘yan. P— ina niya," the President said, drawing laughter from the audience.

"Patayin mo. Galit sa akin ‘yung sige’ng yawyaw [nag-iingay]," he added.

Duterte had previously wished death for "useless" bishops critical of his government which his spokesperson, Salvador Panelo, downplayed as mere hyperbole.

Panelo said Duterte only wanted the bishops to “stop criticizing and do something good for this country." —NB, GMA News
