3-year-old becomes 60th measles fatality in San Lazaro

The number of patients who died of measles at the San Lazaro Hospital in Manila has climbed to 60 on Friday, with the latest one — a three-year-old child — perishing Thursday midnight.

A report on Balitanghali by Connie Sison said a one-year-old child was in critical condition as of Friday morning.

Dr. Ferdinand de Guzman, hospital spokesperson, said they expect the number of measles patients to increase in the following days.

"Nasa kalahati pa lang tayo ng season actually ng fever rashes so expect po na magi-increase po iyan," he said.

The number of measles cases at the San Lazaro Hospital in early 2019 has increased by 300 to 400 percent compared to the number of such cases reported for the same period last year.

A measles outbreak has already been declared in Metro Manila and four other regions, namely Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Region VI (Western Visayas) and Region VII (Central Visayas). —KBK, GMA News
