Subic fair offers 30,000 jobs; some applicants land job on the spot

Some 30,000 jobs were opened to jobseekers at the second "Build Build Build Jobs Jobs Jobs" caravan held at the Subic Gymnasium on Saturday.

The venue was jam-packed with more people waiting outside the gymnasium hoping to secure a job from one of around 100 employers.

According to Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, the job fair is also intended for employees of Hanjin who were displaced. "Skilled yun mga laborer ng Hanjin at marami rin ang naghahanap ng skilled labor so at least maco-connect namin yun mga employers sa employees."

Based on the data provided by the Labor Department some 3,000 employees of Hanjin will be displaced. "There might be a large gap here in employment so in-organize talaga namin ito para ma-address kaagad," Villar said.

Meanwhile, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said they will also offer other means of livelihood to Hanjin employees who won't be able to secure a job through the job fair. "We can offer them livelihood pero marami sa kanila hindi mahihirapan makahanap ng reemployment e highly skilled mga ito at saka bata." —MDM/KG, GMA News
