'Illegal' campaign posters to be taken down before Feb. 12 —Comelec

Campaign posters that are not placed in common poster areas will be taken down before the start of campaign period on Tuesday, according to a report of Jonathan Andal on Super Radyo dzBB.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez said that candidates violating campaign poster policy can still face sanctions even if they are not aware of the posters.

Placing campaign materials such as posters and tarpaulin in areas that are not designated by the Comelec as common poster areas is illegal.

Jimenez said the Comelec already sent letters to candidates who have their campaign tarpaulins placed in non-common poster areas.

The Comelec has started coordinating with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the ‘Operation Baklas.’ —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
