Robredo camp warns of Marcos ‘propaganda’ on poll protest

The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo warned the public  on Thursday about what it called "propaganda" from former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. in connection with his pending election protest before the Supreme Court.

Robredo's lawyer, senatorial candidate Romulo Macalintal, referred to Facebook posts by supposedly pro-Marcos groups which "claimed that 80 percent of ballots in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao were pre-shaded and fake."

"The country's Fake News King is at it again, sending out another propaganda in a desperate move to revive his dying election protest," Macalintal said in a statement.

Macalintal said the results of the manual vote recount that is part of Marcos' protest challenging Robredo's victory in the 2016 vice presidential race shows his client's lead "remained untouched."

He repeated his claim that Marcos had failed to gain substantial recovery in his chosen pilot provinces of Iloilo, Negros Oriental and Camarines Sur.

According to the rules of the High Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), the results of the recount in the pilot provinces would determine whether the protest will proceed to Marcos' remaining protested clustered precincts.

Macalintal added that the alleged results from the ARMM "involves the gubernatorial race in the ARMM at the Comelec level and does not bind the PET."

In response, Marcos spokesman Vic Rodriguez said: "Mrs. Leni Robredo is the one confronted with authenticity issue. It would be best if she first reply and address the nation if she is indeed going out with a married man as pointed (out) by Mayor Sara (Duterte)."

Robredo has denied rumors of having an affair with a married lawmaker. —LDF, GMA News
