Two men allegedly linked to ISIS nabbed in Cagayan — Albayalde

Two individuals allegedly linked to ISIS were nabbed in Baggao, Cagayan last week, the Philippine National Police said on Monday.

At a press briefing, the PNP identified the suspects as brothers Greg and Altero Cariaga.

"Meron silang nakuha doon na dalawang tao based on search warrants. It was an operation by the CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group) and Police Office 2 and of course, from the Philippine Army," PNP chief Police General Oscar Albayalde said.

"May nakuha ngang ISIS flag doon, subversive documents and other firearms. Apparently parang they are pledging support to ISIS," he added.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Marlon Santos, chief of CIDG's Anti-Crime Organized Unit, the two suspects were alleged members of the northern jihadist group.

Recovered from the Cariagas were four firearms, two improvised explosive devices and two ISIS flags.

Meanwhile, Albayalde said authorities have not monitored any imminent danger, specifically in Luzon, from the ISIS group.

He also said police continue to monitor the area.

"Hindi pa naman dahil sabi ko nga itong mga grupo naman na 'to gusto lang magpakilala... So far, wala naman silang nagagawang hostilities sa area na 'yun," Albayalde said.

The suspects were brought to the CIDG office at Camp Adduru in Tuguegarao City. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
