Caloocan Bishop David criticizes Duterte for calling his mother a whore

Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David on Wednesday took to social media his reaction after President Rodrigo Duterte ridiculed his deceased mother by calling him a "son of a whore" during a speech in PDP-Laban's campaign rally in Malabon City.

"He called me a son of a whore for allegedly attacking him from the Church pulpit—which I have never ever done. The pulpit is never for that purpose. Unless, of course, he thinks that calling for an end to violence and extrajudicial killing in my diocese is tantamount to attacking him," David said in a Facebook post.

"He called my mother a whore on the occasion of the launching of the candidacy of Vice Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, who was shown on camera laughing along with the crowd," he added.

Duterte lashed out at David on Tuesday who allegedly uses the pulpit to attack the administration.

"Alam mo kung pari ka, gusto mo akong atakehin. Hoy, David makinig kang p**** i** ka, lumabas ka sa pulpito mo. Huwag mong gamitin ang relihiyon," Duterte said during his speech.

The bishop, a staunch critic of the administration's "bloody" anti-drug campaign, said that his mother Bienvenida Siongco David has successfully sent him and his 12 siblings to college, though the Japanese occupation prevented her from achieving that dream during her youth.

"She succeeded in raising one sociologist, one architect/urban planner, two lawyers, one civil engineer, one real estate broker, one banker, one medical technologist, one critical care nurse, one bishop, one nutritionist, one dentist, and one economist," David said.

"Our family does not expect anyone in government to give her a recognition for her immense contribution in nation-building. But we do not expect anyone either, to insult her memory and call her a whore. She does not deserve it," he added.—LDF, GMA News
