Campaign resumes Black Saturday

Candidates for various political posts are expected to hit the campaign trail anew on Black Saturday after a two-day ban.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) prohibited campaigning on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday as stated in its Comelec Resolution 10488 issued in January this year.

Candidates for senators and local posts only have three weeks to court voters before the May 13 elections.

The last day of the campaign is set on May 11.

Overseas absentee voting has started last April 13 and will last until May 13.  There are 1.8 million Filipinos registered as overseas voters.

In a tentative schedule, the administration-backed Hugpong ng Pagbabago will be in Agusan del Norte on April 21.

Independent candidate Senator Grace Poe will visit Isabela on April 22.

The bets under the opposition slate Otso Diretso are expected complete its Mindanao swing.

In the past elections, candidates usually return to vote-rich regions in the last few weeks of the campaign.

Data from the Commission on Elections identify Calabarzon, National Capital Region, central Luzon, Central Visayas and Western Visayas as the top five regions with the most number of registered voters. —LDF, GMA News
