PNP: 4,839 nabbed during focused police ops for May polls


A total of 4,839 individuals have been arrested during the focused police operations for the 2019 midterm elections, data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed on Tuesday.

Of the total number arrested, 4,557 were civilians, 38 were PNP officials, 17 were officials from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, 76 were government officials, 12 were other law enforcement agency personnel, four were from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, 82 were security guards, nine were foreign nationals, nine were members of the Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA), 27 were from threat groups and eight from private armed groups.

The individuals were arrested during a total of 594,810 police operations nationwide from January 13 to April 28.

A total of 4,038 firearms were confiscated by authorities. Of this number, 3,063 were small firearms, 91 were light firearms and 884 were improvised or homemade weapons.

On the other hand, a total of 37,035 deadly weapons were seized by the police:

  • 141 - firearms replica
  • 1,642 - bladed weapons
  • 284 - grenade
  • 609 - explosives
  • 34,359 ammunition.
