Cardinal Tagle to priests: Share lay group’s choices for senator

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has urged priests to inform the Catholic faithful of the lay group People’s Choice Movement (PCM)'s choices for senator in the coming elections on Monday.

“We want to share with you the process of discernment undergone by the People’s Choice Movement, a purely lay group organized by lay Christian leaders,” Tagle said in a pastoral letter dated May 7.

“I urge you to share this initiative of the lay faithful with the lay groups, youth organizations, circles of discernment in your parish as a guide to their own discernment,” he added.

In April, the PCM endorsed the following senatorial candidates for the May elections: Gary Alejano, Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino, Neri Colmenares, Jose Manuel “Chel” Diokno, Samira Gutoc, Florin Hilbay, Romulo Macalintal, Grace Poe, Mar Roxas and Erin Tanada.

They were chosen based on their stand on issues and how their principles are in line with the teachings of the Church.

All members of the opposition slate Otso Diretso made it to the PCM’s list.

Meanwhile, Tagle also called on priests to include the integrity and peaceful conduct of the May 13 polls in the daily masses leading to the election day.

“Depending on the context of your parish, please organize prayer moments like a Holy Hour, rosaries, a triduum and the like,” Tagle said.

“Let us also remind our communities that after the elections, we should continue our mission of participating in the renewal of society-based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” he added. —NB, GMA News
