DOE no longer pushing for May 14 as holiday

The Department of Energy (DOE) is no longer pushing for the declaration of another holiday after the May 13 elections.

This was confirmed by Energy Undersecretary Felix Fuentebella.

To recall, the DOE earlier said it is studying the possibility of recommending May 14 as a holiday to keep the power supply in check during the canvassing of votes amid fears of brownout as demand is expected to go up after the holiday against thin reserves.

Asked if there are still fears of a brownout during the canvassing of votes, Fuentebella said, "None so far."

He added that "demand is down" and it is "rainy already."

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday signed Proclamation 719, declaring May 13 a specila non-working holiday to allow around 61 million Filipino to vote in the 2019 midterm elections.  — RSJ, GMA News
