VCM destroyed after blast causes fire in Zambo del Sur school

An explosion took place late Wednesday night at a public school in Zamboanga del Sur where machines used in the recent elections were stored, according to Mark Makalalad's report on Dobol B sa News TV on Thursday.

The explosion, reportedly caused by a grenade, happened inside a classroom at San Pablo Central Elementary School where eight vote-counting machines (VCMs)  and other paraphernalia used in the May 13 elections were being kept.

Citing Police Major Helen Galvez, spokesperson for Public Regional Office 9, the report said the blast caused a fire that destroyed one of the VCMs. There others, however, were not damaged.

All the VCMs in the classroom were defective and malfunctioned during the elections, Galvez said.

The fire lasted for only 10 minutes. —KBK, GMA News
