Villar still tops senatorial race; vote canvassing expected to be finished Monday


The canvassing of votes may be wrapped up on Monday, according to the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) on Sunday night according to a report by Divine Reyes on Super Radyo dzBB.

Also according to the report, 162 out of the 167 certificates of canvass (COC) have already been counted, with five more to go.

Based on a separate Twitter update by GMA News reporter Mav Gonzales, as of 7 p.m., the Comelec is still waiting for the remaining 1,683,938 votes to be canvassed from the following places:

  • Isabela;
  • Washington, New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles in the US;
  • Osaka and Tokyo in Japan;
  • Riyadh, Al-khobar, and Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; and
  • Abuja in Nigeria.

As of the latest count, reelectionist Senator Cynthia Villar was still at the top of the Magic 12 with 24,757,642 votes.

Senator Grace Poe follows with 21,563,558 votes, while former special assistant to the President Bong Go takes the third spot with 20,223,738.

The following candidates also made it to the Top 12 based on the Comelec's partial and official count:

  • Bato Dela Rosa - 18,639,583
  • Sonny Angara - 17,786,740
  • Lito Lapid - 16,587,742
  • Imee Marcos - 15,362,702
  • Francis Tolentino - 15,196,397
  • Koko Pimentel - 14,395,957
  • Bong Revilla -14,279,625
  • Nancy Binay - 14,065,071

Ranking 13th was JV Ejercito with 13,983,153 votes. He was followed by Bam Aquino with 13,895,154 votes; and Jinggoy Estrada with 11,085,896 votes. — BM, GMA News
