Imee says people no longer interested in her educational background

Senator-elect Imee Marcos on Friday avoided questions about the issues that hounded her all throughout the campaign season, including her educational background, during a television interview.

Asked during an interview on Unang Balita about the most painful issues hurled against her during the campaign, the outgoing Ilocos Norte governor said, "Sabihin na nila kaming manhid pero sa totoo lang gusto ko na talaga magtrabaho."

Marcos said she has to fulfill a lot of promises she made to the voters during the campaign, particularly in addressing the high price of basic commodities and alleviating hunger and extreme poverty.

Asked to resolve once and for all questions about her educational background, Marcos said, "Okay lang nasagot ko na. Sa akin, ang time ngayon ay talagang tutukan na ang mga plataporma."

When pressed, she said, "Paulit-ulit ko nang sinagot yan at sa palagay ko wala nang interes ang tao diyan."

Marcos, daughter of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, placed 8th in the senatorial race with over 15 million votes. She ran under the administration-backed Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

"Talagang tutukan na natin yung ating mga plataporma, yung ating mga dapat gawin. Napakaraming problema ng ating bansa. Let's get to work," Marcos added.

Questions regarding Marcos' educational background were raised during the campaign period after a school official at Princeton University negated her claim that she finished a degree there.

School officials have also accused her of falsely claiming to be a cum laude graduate at the UP College of Law; valedictorian at the Santa Catalina School in California; and an MA holder. —KBK, GMA News
