JOB FAIR

Hundreds of jobs await returning OFWs, Koreans living in PHL

Hundreds of jobs both for Koreans living in the Philippines and returning overseas Filipino workers were up for grabs at the 2019 Korea Philippine Job Fair held in Makati on Saturday.

Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Dong-man Han said some 40 local and Korean companies are opening their doors to Korean nationals and returning OFWs who have previously worked in Korea.

"I think we make win win solution benefiting Korean companies in the Philippines and also for the returning workers," he said.

Ambassador Han said Korean companies have only good words to say about the work ethics of Filipinos. "Many returning workers are very talented, dedicated, devoted that's why many Korean companies that invest here want to employ them," he said.

The Department of Labor and Employment, meanwhile, assured jobseekers that all of the participating companies are legitimate.

DOLE director Dominique Tutay said, "Lahat po ng mga participating companies po dito ay mga legal even po yun mga trabahong binibigay po nila ay legal."

Tutay further added that the job fair would allow returning OFWs to impart skills and know-how aquired in Korea. "Yun mga natutunan po nila sa korea dadalhin nila dito para ituro naman sa mga kababayan natin filipino," she said.

Some of the available jobs are in manufacturing, banking, retail, food, IT, and business process outsourcing.

The job fair is part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Philipipines and Korea. — with Kaela Malig/MDM, GMA News
