Albayalde says behavior a 'factor' in recall of Tulfos' escorts

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Oscar Albayalde on Monday said behavior is among the factors being considered on whether or not to recall the police security escorts provided to private individuals.

"Hindi ‘yun (behavior) ang basic reason, but that is a factor also," Albayalde said at a press briefing, amid the PNP's decision to pull out the security escorts of broadcaster Erwin Tulfo and his brothers.

The recall of the Tulfos' security escorts came after Erwin publicly berated retired military general and incumbent Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rolando Bautista for supposedly refusing to grant him an interview.

Albayalde said the recall "has something to do with his comments to the Secretary of DSWD, but that's not the main reason," he said.

Police Colonel Filmore Escobal, head of the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG), said the recall was part of a "regular review" of their personnel.

"It's a part of the regular process of the PSPG to periodically review yung availment of protective security personnel," he said at the same briefing.

"Hindi lang yan sa specific personality," he added.

Albayalde, meanwhile, said the PNP provides security escorts to private individuals, including media men, after a thorough evaluation regarding threats to their life. —KBK, GMA News
