SET asked to invalidate Koko Pimentel's victory in May 13 polls

The Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) has ordered reelected Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III to comment on the petitions seeking to invalidate his victory in the May 13 elections, according to Nimfa Ravelo's report on Super Radyo dzBB on Friday.

The two petitions for quo warranto against Pimentel's victory were filed by private citizen Reymar Mansilungan from Mercedes, Camarines Sur, and by Efren Adan, a senior citizen from Manila.

The two said Pimentel should not sit in the 18th Congress as this would be his third term as senator. Under the Constitution, senators are only allowed two consecutive terms.

The petitioners believe Pimentel's first term was from August 2011 to June 2013 when he won his electoral protest against Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Pimentel's second term, the petitioners said, was from 2013 to 2019.

The dzBB report said the SET's notice to Pimentel was already signed by five of the tribunal's nine members.

SET is currently chaired by Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, with members SC Justices Mariano del Castillo and Marvic Leonen, as well as Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon and Senators Nancy Binay, Joel Villanueva, Manny Pacquiao, Richard Gordon and Antonio Trillanes IV. —KBK, GMA News
