VP Robredo supports Reef Bank incident probe

Vice President Leni Robredo supports the proposal to investigate the Recto Bank incident involving a Chinese and Filipino fishing boats last Sunday.

"Buo ang aking suporta sa panawagan ng ating AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) at ng DND (Departmenf ot National Defense) na imbestigahan ang insidenteng ito, at panagutin ang kinauukulan," Robredo said in a statement issued on Independence Day, June 12, 2019.

"Sa ating Araw ng Kasarinlan, magpakita tayo ng tapang at dignidad, lalo na kapag kapakanan at kalayaan ng ating mga mamamayan ang nakasalalay," she added.

She was referring to the collision between a Chinese and Filipino fishing boats last Sunday June 9, 2019 at the Recto Bank.

The Reed Bank or Recto Bank, which is near Palawan, is within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.

The Filipino boat sunk and all 2 passengers were rescued and brought to a safe place by a crew of Vietnamese fishing vessel.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana called for an investigation and for possible diplomatic action. — BAP, GMA News
