Palace: PhilHealth chief, board members filed courtesy resignation on Tuesday

Top officials of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) have already tendered their courtesy resignation to President Rodrigo Duterte, Malacañang said Thursday.

Duterte's spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Acting PhilHealth president Roy Ferrer and all six board members filed their resignation letters on Tuesday, a day after the President asked them to leave their posts.

The Palace had said the President wants a clean slate in the agency following the alleged funding of dialysis treatment for patients who are already deceased.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said PhilHealth executive vice president John Basa will serve as the officer-in-charge of the agency.

The National Bureau of Investigation earlier filed complaints before the Department of Justice against Bryan Sy, the owner and vice president of WellMed Dialysis Center tagged in an allegedly fraudulent PhilHealth claims scheme.

Sy and nine others face complaints for estafa and falsification of documents before the DOJ which will decide whether to dismiss the charges or indict them in court.

The two former employees who first made the accusations, Edwin Roberto and Liezel de Leon, are included in the charge sheet and hope to be turned into witnesses if the case would be filed in court. — MDM, GMA News
