US Embassy: 'Not true' Mina Chang is replacing envoy Sung Kim

The US Embassy in Manila on Wednesday clarified that incumbent Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim will not be replaced by Mina Chang contrary to reports circulating recently.

"We’ve seen this claim. It is not true. In September 2018, the White House announced the President’s intent to nominate Mina Chang to be an Assistant Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development for the Bureau of Asia," the embassy said in a statement.

It added that Chang's nomination to the USAID position has been referred to the Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate last January but the White House did not give any further announcement yet.

Chang currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the US Department of State's Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations. — MDM, GMA News
