Velarde son gets TESDA post; new PhilHealth board members named


President Rodrigo Duterte has made fresh  appointments to the government including a son of El Shaddai leader Bro. Mike Velarde and two board members of scandal-plagued  Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

Duterte named former Buhay party-list Representative Mariano Michael Velarde Jr. deputy director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority last July 10, according to a list released by Malacañang on Friday.

The President also appointed Marlene Padua  and Alejandro Cabading as board members of PhilHealth representing health care providers and expert panel, respectively.

The PhilHealth is headed by Ricardo Morales, a retired military official who was tapped by Duterte last month amid the  controversy involving fraudulent claims.

Interior and Local Government Assistant Secretary Ricojudge Janvier Echiverri was promoted to undersecretary while Pasig City Judge Maria Rowena Modesto-San Pedro was elevated to the Court of Tax Appeals.

The President also made appointments to the Export Development Council, Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board, Local Government Academy, Bureau of Plant Industry, LBP Leasing and Finance Corporation, Cebu Port Authority and the Philippine National Police. — MDM, GMA News
