TUCP urges Duterte to grant labor force's wishes in remaining years of term

Labor group Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) on Sunday urged President Rodrigo Duterte to prioritize the appeal of the workforce sector in the remaining years of his term.

“Sa nalalabing tatlong taon ni Pangulong Duterte sa kanyang panunungkulan, ituon niya naman ang kanyang atensyon at enerhiya doon sa kapakanan ng mga mangagawa,” TUCP spokesperson Alan Tanjusay said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.

Tanjusay said Duterte should approve the anti-endo or security of tenure bill, which may lapse into law next week, and raise the wages of Filipino workers.

“Nagtaas po ng suweldo ang mga pulis pero ang guro at ordinaryong manggagawa hindi,” he said.

Tanjusay added Duterte should present a specific timeline for these to avoid workers from other industries from sulking.

“Nauubos ang termino ni Pangulong Duterte sa war on drugs pero hindi niya natutupad ang mga pangako niya sa mga manggagawa,” Tanjusay said.

The anti-endo bill was ratified in the Senate and House of Representatives in May, and was forwarded to Malacañang for Duterte’s signature on June 27.

Under the Constitution, any bill that is neither signed nor vetoed by the President will automatically lapse into law 30 days after it was forwarded by Congress. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
