Velasco confident Cayetano will be elected House Speaker

Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco was confident that Taguig City Representative Alan Peter Cayetano would be elected Speaker of the House during their Monday morning session.

According to a report by Super Radyo dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo, Velasco would be attending the breakfast meeting that Cayetano invited his fellow congressmen to, in gratitude for their support of his speakership.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier chose Cayetano as his bet for Speaker, a position he would relinquish to Velasco after 15 months following a term-sharing agreement.

For Velasco, there was no reason for Cayetano not become Speaker as they both agreed to share the post.

"I'll just leave it up to Cong. Alan Peter Cayetano. I hope he would just respect the gentleman's agreement," he explained. "I wouldn't even go to that length of signing a paper for the term-sharing agreement. I'll just respect and I hope he abides by his word."

Pulong breakfast

Meanwhile, Cayetano ally and Albay Representative Joey Salceda did no think there was anything to another breakfast meeting, this one hosted by President Rodrigo Duterte's son and Davao City Representative Paolo "Pulong" Duterte.

"Right now I don't know any news that anyone is going up against Cong. Alan Peter Cayetano. As far as I know, the invitation for breakfast for tomorrow morning is actually just a get-together," said Salceda.

"As far as I know there won't be any fireworks," he emphasized.

Paolo Duterte had earlier hinted at a possible "coup" on the day of the election for Speaker, which could frustrate Cayetano's plans to become Speaker.

However, Cayetano said that, during their meeting last Friday, the younger Duterte had agreed to be his Deputy Speaker for Political Affairs— Erwin Colcol/DVM, GMA News
