NBI to probe PCSO’s alleged failure to remit billions from STL

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office allegedly failed to remit billions of pesos in revenues from its Small Town Lottery and Peryahan ng Bayan operations.

According to Cecille Villarosa's report on "24 Oras",  Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the National Bureau of Investigation would focus on this angle when it investigates corruption in the agency.

President Rodrigo Duterte last week stopped the PCSO's gaming operations due to, according to him, corruption.

"It will focus on the allegation that 'yung proper government share is not being remitted by let's say STL or Peryahan ng Bayan, so forth and so on," Guevarra said.

"We're talking about billions of pesos here. We're not talking about simply hundreds of millions. We're talking about billions over a period of time," he added.

Guevarra said the investigation will cover the PCSO's gaming activities across the country since 2016.

"Malaki talaga ang nawawala sa gobyerno," Guevarra said.

NBI director Dante Gierran said there will be two teams that would investigate.

"As evidence emerges, we will file a case," Gierran said. —NB, GMA News
