On Cory's 10th death anniversary, Kiko urges public to resist 'historical revisionism'

Senator Francis Pangilinan on Wednesday urged Filipinos to resist "historical revisionism" being done on digital media that seeks to "erase" the country's memory of democracy, in which the late President Corazon "Cory" Aquino is considered a "lodi" (idol).

Pilipinas ang nagpauso ng mapayapang people power sa buong mundo," Pangilinan said in commemoration of Cory's 10th death anniversary.

Pangilinan called on his countrymen to fight revisionism, as the digital media is being used by "enemies of freedom" today in order to put forward their agenda of altering Philippine history.

Ipinanalo natin ang ating kalayaan sa EDSA," he said.

Pangilinan noted that the assassination of former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., Cory's husband, in 1983 was a "turning point" for him to realize the "evils" of martial law.

Pangilinan in 2009 supported the presidential candidacy of Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, Cory and Ninoy's son, who won the presidency in the 2010 elections. Both Pangilinan and Noynoy are members of the Liberal Party. —Jamil Santos/KBK, GMA News
