Sotto urges senators to control their temper during hearings

Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Sunday reiterated his reminder to his fellow senators to control their temper during hearings and focus on the issues at hand.

Sotto made the remark as the Senate begins its committee hearings and meetings this week.

In a Super Radyo dzBB interview, Sotto said he already reminded senators about handling committee hearings as early as the opening of their sessions.

"Kung hindi rin lang naman na malala ang sitwasyon, dapat mas naka-concentrate kami doon sa issue na in aid of legislation," he said.

"Parang paalala lang, hindi naman kasi maiiwasan na magalit ang mga senador, pero kung minsan din naman, sumusobra yung galit at nawawala sa lugar. Kaya paalala lang," he added.

At least 12 committee hearings and meetings are set this week at the Senate, one of which is an investigation into the issues hounding the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) on Thursday.

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, chaired by Senator Richard Gordon, will conduct the said inquiry.

Sotto also reminded the senators to ensure that they come up with a committee report on their hearings and meetings.

"Talagang pilitin namin na talagang yung mga investigations, hearing ay bukod doon sa in aid of legislation ay magkaroon ng kaukulang committee report," he said. —Erwin Colcol/LBG, GMA News
