Officials of the Philippine Army and their Indonesian counterparts on Wednesday agreed that cooperation between the two countries must be maintained and intensified in order to combat terrorism.

Major General Kurnia Dewantara, commandant of the Indonesian Army Command and General Staff College (IACGSC), paid a courtesy call on Philippine Army chief of staff Major General Jesus Sarsagat on Wednesday, during which they discussed the training exchanges between the Philippines and Indonesia to fight terrorism.

"We agree that the cooperation between Indonesia and Philippines should be maintained because we face the same threat of terrorism. Through these training exchanges, we are able to learn from each other to develop the best approach to fight it and then solve the problem together,” Dewantara said.

Dewantara is in the Philippines as he heads a 61-member delegation from the IACGSC for an overseas study tour from August 5 to 9, which aims to expose the students from the Indonesian Army to a holistic approach on international military affairs.

“We have sent our soldiers in Indonesia and they are learning a lot from your experiences in fighting terrorism,” he added. — BM, GMA News
